The family meets with the doctors to talk about what will happen in the hospital. Nia’s mother plans to take time off from work to stay at the hospital, too.
When you are going to stay in the hospital for 5 to 8 weeks, there is a lot of planning.
Some patients stay in the hospital longer than 8 weeks due to transplant complications.
Before you go to the hospital, you will meet with your treatment team:
- Your doctor will talk about your test results.
- They will explain everything that will happen in the hospital.
- They can help you plan for all the time away from your normal life.
Before treatment, there will be consent documents to read and sign.
- If you are under 18, your parent or other caregiver will sign the documents.
- If you are over 18, you will sign the documents yourself. You can choose to let your parents or someone else you trust make the medical decisions for you, if you like.
