Today is Nia’s first day in the hospital. Her mom is worried about Nia feeling lonely and missing her friends from school. Nia is worried because she met another child who got very sick after their transplant.
It is a mental challenge to be in the hospital for a long time.
You may feel many different things:
- Hopeful.
- Afraid.
- Lonely.
- Bored.
- Worried.
- Tired.
These are normal feelings.

You can talk to your doctors and nurses about your feelings.

There are also mental health professionals who can visit you in the hospital.
It is a long and difficult treatment.
Mental health challenges during and after bone marrow transplant are normal.
