Nia gets her genetically-changed stem cells.
You get your genetically-changed stem cells through a central line.
This is just like a blood transfusion.
- This is sometimes called an infusion.
- It is not a surgery.
- You will be awake.
- It only takes a few minutes for the cells to go into your blood.
Your treatment team will stay close to watch if your body has a bad response.
Some people can have a bad response to the infusion.
This is not common. Your doctor knows how to treat a bad response.
They will watch to see if you are:
- Coughing.
- Having trouble breathing.
- Feeling itchy.
- Getting low blood pressure.
The bad response can be caused by the preservative (chemicals) used to store the frozen genetically-changed stem cells.
