Month 10
Nia is 13
Nia gets more tests to check if she is ready for treatment.
You will get more tests to check that you are ready for treatment.
It can take a few weeks, because there are many tests:
- Blood tests.
- Heart, lung, and kidney tests.
- Scans of your body (X-rays, MRI, and CT scans).
- Other tests, if needed.
You will get a central line.
- A central line is a thin flexible tube that is placed in a large vein in the neck, chest, or groin area.
- It is also called a central venous access catheter.
- It makes it easier to draw blood and give medicine.
- People can sometimes have a pain crisis when a central line is placed in their body.
The treatment will be very hard on your body.
Your doctor does tests to check if your body is ready.
Some reasons you might not start treatment yet are:
- Your heart, lungs, or kidneys are not healthy enough for chemotherapy.
- You had a stroke recently.
- You have an active infection.
